Additional Learning Needs

Proses ADY Ysgol Glan Ceubal

Our Vision

Here at Ysgol Gymraeg Glan Ceubal, we are committed to ensuring each child achieves and succeeds in an enriched environment that overcomes the obstacles, and allows children to learn effectively. In order to provide this, we personalise learning to the needs of each pupil.

We ensure that each child’s needs are met by maintaining high standards of differentiation. By doing so, we set ambitious targets and teach the children to set high standards for themselves too.

Following the Four Purposes of the new Curriculum, we encourage children to be enterprising and creative learners, principled and knowledgeable, healthy and confident, and ambitious and capable.

We acknowledge that each child is unique, and that most children have additional learning needs, or will experience them at some point during their school life. Therefore, it is essential that we provide an inclusive and caring environment for each child.

The New Additional Learning Needs Bill

From January 2022, The Additional Learning Needs and Education Tribunal (Wales) Act (ALNET) replaces the current Special Educational Needs (SEN) framework with a reformed system based on Additional Learning Needs (ALN). The Bill makes provision for universal, statutory Individual Development Plans (IDP) for all children and young people with ALN.

All schools in Wales will be required to make changes to their current systems. We are working in collaboration with Cardiff County Council to ensure a smooth transition to the new ALNET Act.

Dyslexia

10% of the population are believed to receive a diagnosis of dyslexia at some point in their lives. However, it is often misunderstood. Dyslexia is a neurological difference which can have a big impact on a child’s learning, and their day to day lives. Everyone’s experience of dyslexia is different. It can vary in severity, and it can be a part of other additional learning needs. Often, it runs within families.

If you are concerned that your child might have dyslexia, you are welcome to come and talk to the class teacher.
